Better Solutions For Healthcare Praises New Hospital Bill Transparency Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC – Better Solutions for Healthcare today released the following statement in support of the recently introduced Fair Billing Act, sponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Roger Marshall (R-KS). The bipartisan legislation aims to reduce harmful facility fees by requiring hospital to use unique billing identification codes.

“Better Solutions for Healthcare, an employer-based coalition, applauds Senators Hassan and Marshall as they continue to support policies that bring more transparency to our healthcare costs. Care should cost the same no matter where it occurs—whether it’s at a hospital or outpatient facility should make no difference,” said BSFH Executive Director Connie Partoyan. “More transparency in hospital billing is an important first step to reducing high healthcare costs and preventing hospitals from exploiting the current system that encourages further hospital consolidation. We appreciate the Senators’ leadership to push for policies that lower healthcare costs for employers and consumers.”

A recent investigation by NBC News found that when Cleveland Clinic started buying up outpatient facilities in Florida, many patients were blindsided by facility fees that were unaffordable.
